What were the long and short term causes of the Indian Mutiny 1857?
I need to type an essay on the Indian Mutiny. Long + Short term causes? Or maybe a conclusion as well? Thanks!
Because the Sepoys had to use paper cartidges in their Enfiled rifles which were greased with animal fat – as they had to bite them to use them they were at risk of consuming pig or cow fat which was used in the production of tallow – and this was against their religion. (Pork was offensive to Muslims, beef to Hindus. This was the final straw – thel ong answer is quite well put here:
